What are the signs that my house has bad or dangerous wiring?

Key warning signs include: frequently tripping circuit breakers, burning smells near sockets or switches, discoloured or warm switch plates, flickering lights, buzzing sounds from the consumer unit, old-style round-pin sockets, rubber-insulated wiring (black or white with green or red colours), and a fuse board with rewirable fuses rather than MCBs. If you notice any of these, have an EICR carried out as soon as possible.
