Regulations

Can I do my own electrical work in the UK?

Some minor electrical work is permitted without notification (like replacing a like-for-like socket or light switch outside of special locations). However, notifiable work — including new circuits, outdoor work, kitchen and bathroom work — must be carried out by a registered electrician or notified to Building Control. Unregistered work can affect your home insurance and make a property unsellable. It's always safer to use a qualified professional.
