Yes. BS 7671 requires that all outdoor socket outlets are protected by an RCD with a tripping current not exceeding 30mA. This is for safety in case the socket is used with garden tools, lawnmowers, or other equipment. We always install outdoor sockets on a dedicated RCD-protected circuit.
